Rules of Creation (Vidhi Vidhan)

Today you can laugh at me
And whisper about my sad pathetic situation, hey cruel blooming flowers!
But do remember,
The time does not stay same for everyone.
I will remind you of your this laughter tomorrow
When you would wither and be crushed under the feet.

Moon,
You can shine in your limited circle
And taunt me to your heart’s content,
But watch out for that approaching unsuspected dark cloud
Which may cover you in darkness.

The time does not stay same for anyone.
Who has completely understood
The rules of the nature and universe?

1920. Indore.

Spring (Basant)

What do the new tender leaves say?
“Welcome, new life”

Blooming buds indicate
“Progress of humanity”

Cuckoo bird sings,
In a high note,
That echoes in all directions
“Rise and shine”

Nature performs
Its charming divine dance
To welcome victorious spring.

March 4th. Sabarmati.

Garden (Gulshan)

Sadness disappears
At the sight of these
Various beautiful colored flowers.

View of splashing waterfall
Provides a new encouragement to the heart.

Chirping musical notes of birds
Echoes in the heart.

Fragrant breeze revives
The vital life in the inert body.

This green grass, plants and flowering vines,
Bees and butterflies fluttering and buzzing,
Over the half opened buds and blooming flowers,
All make me realize
The greatness, glory and wonders
Of nature’s grandeur
That gives immense pure joy and peace.

1924. Sabarmati.

Spring welcome (Basant ka Swagat)

Welcome, welcome dear spring,
Provider of new prosperity and happiness.
Ruler of the trees,
Life of the plant kingdom
And provider of strength and vital energy.
Welcome, the king of the seasons,
Come, and blesses us with new inspiration.

Your arrival brings,
New encouragement and strength to lead to right direction
And guide us to achieve progress in life.

Look at these
New delicate leaves,
Lovely blooming buds.
Listen to cuckoo’s song of freedom.

“We are free and independent.
We get new vital energy by fresh air”.

One who is lucky to fly around,
Free to act on one’s own will,
Deserve the full life and happiness
Is the law of nature.

One, who follows the strict rule of nature,
Is recipient of pure joy and happiness.

One, who goes against it,
Destroys one’s own progress.

Depend on yourself and not on others
Is the easiest way to achieve the desired goal”.

No one is more fortunate in this world
As these green vines, flower bunches and singing birds.

1925. Sabarmati.

Who am I? (Kya Hoo)?

I am not that delicate leaf or a flower
That gets easily pierced by the prickly stickers and thorns.
I am not that precious gem
That gets caged in the gold necklace.

I am not soft fresh butter
That melts with the sight of heat.
 Remember that,
I am that minute diamond particle,
That smiles and shines,
After taking hard beating of the hammer.

I am not a little twig
That is blown away by little gentle breeze.
I am not that clay pot
That falls apart
With a rough touch of a potter’s finger.
I am not that shimmering flame of a candle
That blows off in the angry storm.

I am that minute particle of life
That refuses to be destroyed by death
And lives again and again
Forever.

1932. Ajmer Jail.

Diamond and Coal (Heera and Koyla)

“I am so lucky to have a brother like you,
Any mother would be proud to have a son like you, Diamond.

It is because of you that,
The crown of the king shines.
You brighten the lovely precious necklace.

Wealthy attracted by your cut, and clarity,
Wish to own you.

Look at my life.
I am the blackest of the black,
Permanently stains everything,
Stain that cannot be washed away”.

Coal said feeling sorry for itself.

“Please do not say that.
You have a wrong perception.

You are very helpful to the humanity,
By producing the power,
Essential for all aspect of the life.

I may be precious,
And best among the gems,
Ornamented,
But it is you, who sacrifice your own life,
For the mankind to provide the power it needs.”

Answered Diamond.

Compost (Khad)

What was thrown away outside the house as a waste for being,

Dirty, smelly, useless and rotten,

But after getting crushed, decayed and, sacrificing its life,

It gave youth, beauty and new life,

To the earth,

By producing green leaves, lovely fragrant flowers, and delicious fruits.

1932. Ajmer Jail.

Durvadal

These are not beautiful,

precious, attractive, shining and bright jewels,

Not lovely fragrant flowers,

And not fruits of immortality.

These are only freely flowing,

Uninhibited thoughts

Of a humble heart,

Strung together

As a collection of poems.

1932. Ajmer.

Ignorant (Naadaan)

Hey, you dear ignorant bee!

Why do you always fly from one flower to other
After sucking sweet nectar from the first one?

Why you greedy thirsty bee,
One flower cannot satisfy
Your needs.

What a pleasure you get,
In beauty and nectar!

Why do you not get pride
In the thought that
I have sacrificed my whole life for you?

1932. Ajmer Jail.

Bubble (Budbud)

I am neither the precious gem of a mine of knowledge,

Nor at the top of a poetic tower.

I am just a tiny water bubble of a huge salty ocean.

1932, Ajmer Jail

To lotus (Kamal Se)

I am not a honeybee
Who collects and stores all the honey.
My bite is sharper than the sword
And may bring death
To the cruel, wicked and evils.

I am always thirsty for love
Wish for yours progress and happiness.
Your nectar is my life
 I am thankful to you.

You are the best among all the flowers,
Offered to God during worship.

All the bees suck life out of you
But the everlasting source of the nectar
Inside you never empties.

Your fragrance spreads through
The gentle breeze.

Why do you wilt?
Forgetting yourself,
Just be happy.
You are the beauty of the world.

You quench my thirst
And I give honey to the world.
So an invisible thread connects us.

You are I and I am you.
What is the difference between you and me?
Differences create tension.
So forget the difference of external appearances.

Soul is only one but it takes different forms,
Ignorant do not know that.

I am weak, troubled and despaired.

Mother gives life to the baby, feeds nectar of life,
Her wish for the baby is to have an eternal life at the cost of her life.

1932. Ajmer Jail

I will be (Banunga)

I do not want to be imprisoned
By being a diamond
To be decorated in the king’s crown;
Instead, my wish is to be a lump of coal
That burns to provide the light in the dark houses.

I am not so lucky
To wear a crown on my own head
And see admiration
In the eyes of many,
But I am lucky to live
In the eyes of thousands

As a flower I will spread the fragrance
To all and get praise from them.
As a thorn I will be used as a border
To protect the house and property.

The flame of the burning fire
When reaches high into the sky
Is visible and get mentioned,
However, the wood that burns
To produce fire
Silently changes into the ashes.

Babool and Rose (Babool and Rose)

After getting tired of its boring life
Babool went to Rose and said,
“Let me be in the secret of your successful life
That made you beautiful and fragrant
Kings and all the wealthy people
Want you to be in their garden.

The same people
Selectively destroy me by uprooting or cutting,
Removing me from the garden.

 I wish my life
Could be more like yours.

Hey king of flowers!
Do not disappoint and ignore me
Like everyone else does.”

 Rose smiled and answered,
“You are mistaken.
Do not forget your own qualities, my friend.

My name and fame is temporary
And lasts only till my color, fragrance and freshness lasts.

I am used only as a tool
For the rich to add  to their affluence.

You are so helpful.
All your parts, from root to the thorns
Are useful to everyone.

Your simple and useful life
Is more complete
Than my short-lived useless life.

1932. Aimer Jail

Fertilizer (Khad)

I am not nectar of a flower
Which tempts the honeybees.
I am not butter filled sweets that stay in the mouth of Lord Krishna (God).
I am not charming rosy holi powders
Used in social occasions to be placed on the foreheads.
I am not a salt flavor
That is used in various tasty dishes.
I am born of a sad, Dirty mother
In a smelly place, in lower class,
Whoever saw my ugly unlucky face
Ran away very fast.
I live to decay,
And at death I become a part of the dirty ground.
I cry my whole life
And find happiness in death.
I lived on a dung heap
I get cremated in the farm.
My ashes when scattered all over the ground
Is the source of new life.
This is the only moment of happiness in my life
This is the only quality I have.
In my life which is full of unpleasantness
This is my only credible achievement.
When I see the healthy, green crops growing on the earth,
Despite of my sad life,
For a moment even I am proud of myself.

1932. Ajmer Jail.

Lamp (Deepak)

“In my unhappy, sad, miserable thankless life
 I have not achieved
Anything useful.

 Hey friend, by burning myself
I succeeded only in spreading
The black smoke all over.

 There are some
Who give joy and happiness
To others and then
Here I am who brings tears
To smiling lovely eyes.”

“Thank you lamp.

Your life is great and you are humble.
After you burn,
Spread the light to earth and thereby removing the darkness
Your left over black smoke is used for
Medicinal purpose as most precious gift of yours
To help blind to get vision
Is compare to none.

You sacrifice your life
Without asking anything in return.
No one can ask for anymore.
But you know what?
You deserve and should get
All the respect for your humble sacrifice”.

1932. Ajmer Jail.

Foundation and the top (Neeve and Shikhar)

”Look at me. I am bright and beautiful,
My glory has touched the sky.
Proudly standing,
Loved and admired
By the surprised eyes of the world.

I am great and feel
So happy when everyone bows down his or her head
And then looks up to see me.

You are just a silly stone,
Buried under the ground in the darkness,
Carrying the heavy load on your shoulder” Said the Top to the foundation.

“I am not sorry and sad where I am.
You do enjoy
The praise of the world.
It does not concern me
That no one sees, paints or writes about me.
Because I know
That I am the foundation
On which you so proudly stand”. Answered the foundation

1932. Ajmer Jail.

Successful Life (Saphal Jeevan)

“No new tender leaves and lovely flowers now
My life is like a stump of a tree.

If I can be of service to mankind
I will consider my life successful.”

“You gave leaves, fragrant flowers, and fruits
Really all what you had
And that is
More than enough sacrifice.

So your life is
Beautiful and successful”

1932. Ajmer Jail 1932.

Rebellion (Vidroh)

In the deep darkness,
When the moon hides behind the clouds,
“There is no reason for us to be afraid.”
Twinkling stars whisper to one another fearlessly.

“It is enough.
We must rebel and end this universe
Ruled by the sun and the moon.

During the day, the bright hot burning sun rules,
At night, the moon stays awake and takes over.

Our wishes and votes do not count.
No more we would stay quiet.
We must find the solution of this problem.”

After hearing the open rebellion from the stars,
The sun and moon discussed
And tried to form a strategic plan.

Sun became angry and said,
“I can burn all of them.
That is the only way
This rebellion can be suppressed.”

Moon answered,
“Yes, you can burn them
And with them the entire earth
Will also burn to ashes.
Who are going to rule over?”

 Moon’s sound advises
Brought joy to the stars.
Ever since then Sun, moon and stars
All rule the sky by taking turns
Respecting a very methodical universal law.

1932. Ajmer Jail

Blessed Kingdom (Mangalraj)

Today the blessed kingdom is here.
All children, couples, and families
Celebrate by singing happy songs, dancing and laughing.

Stalin has become Buddha
And Hitler changed into Gandhi.
Sickle and hammer of Russia
Joined hands with America.

The sun showers cool nectar.
Lion acts like deer
And snake gives life from its poisonous hood.

Thorns have become lovely flower buds.
Snakes wrap around the neck like necklace.
Trees are moving
Stones are smiling.
There is laughter everywhere.

Disagreement and argument ended in peace.
Black soot is pure white snow.
The forest is crazily happy
Since the king of seasons has arrived in the blessed kingdom.
